Pioneer American Naturist Photographer

contraversial Roaring Twenties photographer Edwin Bower Hesser.
AND I combined that bio with a massive gallery of his best photos

Edwin Bower Hesser is one of the truly stunning
early American photographers of the nude form.
His family background in theater
propelled him into exploring innovative imagery with dancers,
actresses and
movie stars. Edwin had an exquisite eye for beauty, light and composition.
And
some of the superb photographic studio lighting techniques he invented are still
used
as standard repertoire by professional photographers.

After several unsustainable attempts to make good in the early
film industry,
plus a fire which destroyed his first professional photo studio in New York,
Hesser settled into a lucrative career in Hollywood as a still photographer.
He
catered to the silent movie makers, and shot beautiful publicity portraits
of
numerous actresses and movie stars.

Edwin Hesser's specialty, however, was soft-focus plein aire nudes
shot
in sylvan and seaside settings. Inspired by the extraordinary Deco era nude
and risque stage productions of Flo Ziegfeld, George White and Earl Carroll,
Hesser proceded with a methodical photographic exploration of artistic nudity.
The young
American film industry was just too coy, tame and puritanical
to support his pure
expression of artistic courage in the moving pictures.

So, by 1923, Hesser turned his entrepreneurial efforts to publishing graphic
photo periodicals dedicated to the wonder and glory of female undress. Edwin
Bower Hesser's ARTS MONTHLY was issued through most of the Roaring 20s.
He
also released a barrage of other titles with similar content, designed to
exploit the association of art and nudity. They were ostensibly marketed
to 'art
students', but were in fact more widely distributed.
.
Edwin faced many challenges through the course of his intriguing life.
His
publishing empire collapsed during the Depression era.
But he had an inventive mind
and developed a color photography system
called 'HesserColor'. Unfortunately
Hesser was unable to win the competition
with Kodak, and later turned to other
applications of his skills and inventions.

"EARLY HOLLYWOOD NUDES of EDWIN BOWER HESSER" contains a
very informative
biography of Edwin, plus a fat gallery (120 images) --
the best E B Hesser photos
from Baraka's extensive collection.
All of Hesser's signature styles are well represented: natural forest
and beach
nudes, fabulous dancers and other elegant studio shots,
as well as some
important celebrities of the era (such as Jean Harlow,
Clara Bow, Rudolph
Valentino, etc). Also included are seven rare
nude studies in Edwin's own
patented color photo process, and an array of
covers from erotic magazines of
the day which featured Hesser's photography.
Note: Baraka's E B Hesser book is a PDF file, the traditional ebook format --
ideal to display a photo-laden book on your computer, laptop, iPad or tablet.
[It
is not available in the proprietary Kindle format,
which
unfortunately does not display illustrated ebooks to advantage.]
